Answer:Depends on the subject, but I've got birds the size of a egret or great blue heron well over 100 feet away with a 500mm +2x. Its pretty amazing. And when the camera can't find the eye, its very consistent at getting the head. But obviously the closer you are, the higher quality focus lock you can achieve.
